About Us

The Board

The board of Women in Film & Video/New England meets once a month. WIFV/NE’s board is a ‘working board’ and members serve two-year terms. Responsibilities of the board include serving as ‘ambassadors’ for WIFV/NE by attending industry events and making contacts with other community organizations; serving on committees, including a Programming Committee, Fundraising Committee, Screenwriting Event Committee; and working as a team to accomplish the goals of the organization. Cheryl Eagan-Donovan, President (click name to email) Cheryl Eagan-Donovan served as publicist for the award winning features ALL THE RAGE (Roland Tec 1996) and COULD BE WORSE! (Zack Stratis 2000) as well as the music documentary PAYOFF (Kaylyn Thornal 1998.) Her first film, ALL KINDSA GIRLS (2006) has played at film and music festivals in London, Toronto and San Francisco, as well as at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin and the Gene Siskel Film Center in Chicago. Her second documentary, NOTHING IS TRUER THAN TRUTH, based on the life of Edward de Vere, is currently in pre-production.

 

Nicole Prowell, Vice-President, Membership, Web (click name to email) Nicole is an independent documentary filmmaker in Boston. She is currently pursuing her MFA in Experimental Documentary at Emerson College, where she completed her MA in Documentary Video in 2008. In addition, she has studied filmmaking at FAMU in Prague, where she produced a short fictional narrative piece about the westernization of Eastern European culture, in the Czech language. Prior to moving to Boston, she worked in New York for IBM and for the Jacob Burns Film Center, a non-profit art house focused on promoting visual media literacy. She has also worked as a Media Production Manager at MIT's Media Lab. Her recent projects include a personal documentary about traveling across the country in search of happiness, entitled Happy Hunting.

Annie Berman, Web (click name to email) Recipient of the Lisa Robin Hurwitz Memorial Film Award in 1999, Annie is an active participant in the Boston film community, showing her own films, teaching, and working on local film and radio productions.  Annie is currently producing the independent feature documentary "The Faithful" exploring the phenomenons of Elvis Presley, Pope John Paul II, and Princess Diana.  Annie began her career as an intern for WGBH's Culture Shocks series. Past work has included the documentary You Can't Evict the Spirit, funded by a grant from the Brandeis Undergraduate Research Program, two short animations, screened at the WIFV/NE's Short and Edgy Festival at the Harvard Film Archive.  Berman graduated from Brandeis University, Phi Beta Kappa, with concentrations in Psychology, Film Studies, and Women's Studies.

 

Loren Larsen, Membership, Events (click name to email) Loren Larsen is an attorney, filmmaker and consultant. She began practicing law in 2002 in Chicago and moved to New York City in 2004 to continue her practice in commercial litigation and entertainment law. In 2004 Loren co-produced the feature documentary, Swing State Ohio, which was released and screened throughout the country in 2005 and 2006. Producing the film gave Loren the opportunity to secure and conduct interviews with political figures such as Senators Ted Kennedy and John Glenn, Karen Hughes, Rob Portman, Jenna Bush and Ken Blackwell. In 2007 she shifted from formal law practice to consulting, working on such successful startups as Organicgreenmommy.com as well as Call2Action.com. Loren is now the Director of Business Development and Acquisitions for Twolia.com, a "vibrant, modern and long-awaited destination site for women."


Thato Rantao Mwosa, Events, Festivals (click name to email) Thato is a local Filmmaker who focuses on the African Diaspora. Thato won the coveted “Emerging Local Filmmaker Award” at the 2005 Roxbury Film Festival for her film, Don’t Tell Me You Love Me. In early 2007, Thato produced her third film, The Day Of My Wedding which was selected for broadcast on BETJ’s “Best Shorts” program in November 2007. In 2007, Thato created and directed an international TV show, Ya Ma’Afrika. The show chronicles lives of African immigrants in America. Ya Ma’Afrika was broadcast on a satellite TV channel Telesud, which reaches Africa, Europe and America. Thato graduated with a dual degree in TV/Video Production and Marketing/Advertising Communications from Emerson College (2001). In 2004, she attained a Film Directing certificate from New York Film Academy.

 

Anna Feder, Fundraising, Film Festivals (click name to email) Anna currently holds a B.A. in Film Analysis and Technique from Umass Amherst and is currently working on her thesis film to complete her MFA in film production from Boston University (expected May 2010). She has been working on film festivals in various capacities for the past decade (including the Newport International, Northampton Independent and UN Global Voices film festivals). She is currently the festival director and curator of the Boston Underground Film Festival. She has been with BUFF for the past six years, revitalizing the festival and bringing it to its current home, at the Kendall Landmark Theatre in Kendall Square. She is also the program coordinator in the Visual Media Arts department at Emerson, coordinating events and helping students get their work out into the world. She also serves on the advisory board of Press Pass TV; youth led, adult supported video journalism. She is building a consulting business advising filmmakers on submitting to festivals and guerilla promotion techniques.

 

Danielle Connor, Publicity (click name to email) Danielle Connor is a video producer and publicist with a background in grassroots organizing. Her clients include The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, Clean Water Action, The Institute for Policy Studies, Planted Seeds Productions and The Small Planet Institute. Danielle holds degrees from Mount Holyoke College and The Salt Institute for Documentary Studies. She grew up in Ipswich, MA and lives in Boston.

 

Miranda Elmorsi, Events (click name to email) Miranda is a freelance editor and independent documentary filmmaker based in Boston. She has an undergraduate degree in film and television from Boston University where she focused on film theory. She also holds an MA in Visual Media Arts from Emerson College where she focused on documentary filmmaking and editing.

 

Nicole McConvery, Web (click name to email) Nicole is a film festival coordinator, occasional-journalist, and program coordinator in the non-profits sector.  She is planning to finish her MA in Journalism at Boston University this spring.  This will be Nicole's third season as Managing Director of the Boston Underground Film Festival.  Additionally, she has worked with the Boston Latino International Film Festival and the UN Global Voices Film Festival.  By day, she coordinates projects for the Unitarian Universalist Association's International Office as well administrates the German language program at the Goethe-Institut Boston.  Originally hailing from upstate NY, she earned an undergraduate degree in Psychology & German from Union College, focusing specifically on the use of propaganda in the media during WWII.  She has written for Boston.com and The Hollywood Reporter.

 

Ananda Moore, Web (click name to email) Ananda is an independent documentary editor, filmmaker and educator living in Brookline, Massachusetts.  She holds a B.F.A. in Film from
Emerson College, and is pursuing an MEd from the University of Boston. Additionally, Ananda studied Czech film history and filmmaking at FAMU in Prague.
