The Ridgefield Independent Film Festival (RIFFct) celebrates independent cinema from around the world—films that enlighten, entertain, and inspire moviegoers through compelling visual storytelling. RIFFct brings innovative films and filmmakers to the artistically vibrant community of Ridgefield, CT for an annual four-day festival that includes screenings, special events, panel discussions, and nightly parties.
This year, RIFFct is excited to announce its full commitment to 50/50 filmmaker gender parity. That means that 50% of the films showcased at RIFF will be directed by women (or individuals who identify as women) and the other 50% will be directed by men (or individuals who identify as men). This year, they will also offer cash prizes in every category to award-winning films.
“I have attended dozens and dozens of film festivals both as filmmaker and as a film lover,” says 2018 Festival Director Megan Smith-Harris. (Pictured left, at an Oscar party at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum. Next to Megan is her son Jack and friend Kimberly.) “I’ve always enjoyed the excitement of discovering new talent, being inspired by other filmmakers, and of becoming energized by the creative frisson that happens organically when cultural communities come together. I look forward to making RIFF one of the truly special film festivals in the country, and one that people want to return to again and again.”
RIFFct gets it. They know how hard you’ve worked, how much you’ve sacrificed to make your film. They understand how much time it took to get financing, secure locations, find your cast, crew up, design animation, edit your fine cut, create the score, build a website, and make a kick-ass trailer to market your film.
They know because they’ve been there. They’re filmmakers, too, and want to be known as the filmmaker-friendly festival. What does that mean exactly? Should your film be selected, they will do all they can to assist in marketing and promoting your work. They’ll do their best to help out with accommodations while you’re at the festival, and you’ll also receive a full access pass to every screening, panel discussion, party, and special event on the roster.
To celebrate their commitment to 50/50 filmmaker gender parity they’d like to even the playing field by offering all WIFV/NE members a 50% submission waiver to make submitting your work to RIFF more affordable. (Check your WIFVNE Members only email for the code.) 100% of their submission fees go toward cash awards for the winning films and to filmmaker support.
RIFFct looks forward to viewing your film and hopes to celebrate both you and your cinematic baby with their amazing RIFF audiences this coming October. For more information, visit the RIFFct website.
