With over 25 years experience in global film/television distribution with her company Docurama, Susan Margolin moved into producing and executive producing. Her latest is the mutli-award-winning, 2024 Oscar short-listed Desperate Souls, Dark City and the Legend of Midnight Cowboy, directed by the late great Nancy Buriski, with whom Susan built a special director/producer relationship over the years. (Also including A Crime in the Bayou -2020, The Rape of Recy Taylor – 2017.) And, she has worked multiple times with other filmmakers, including Zeva Oelbaum and Sabine Krayenbühl (Obsessed with Light -2023, Letters from Baghdad -2016.) Other notable filmmakers she has produced with include Trish Adlesic - A Tree of Life (2022), Judith Helfand – Love and Stuff (2020), Alexandra Cordina – Paper Children (2020.) In addition, Susan is on the board of the Documentary Producers Alliance and Chicken & Egg Pictures.
In a field that we know is extremely difficult to begin with, not to mention succeed in, building that special synergy and working together as a viable force makes for a clearer path to make the best film possible to find its way into the world at large. How do you choose a producer / build a relationship with your directors is everything, and in this webinar, Susan speaks to exactly that.
This is the second session in the four-part webinar series: Making It Work: Success and Sustainability
