We “Widen the Lens” and advance the goals of our membership by offering educational and career development opportunities, access to our community partners, and the space to collaborate. We seek to amplify our members' voices and stories with deep respect and appreciation for the rich diversity of experiences and perspectives that they bring. By providing hands-on training, mentoring, and networking, WIFVNE creates a lasting legacy of excellence and equity in the media and entertainment industry.

HISTORY

Women in Film & Video New England is a member of umbrella groups Women in Film & Television US (WIFTUS) and Women in Film & Television International (WIFTI.)

In 1981, eleven women, all Boston-based media professionals, came together to form the New England chapter of Women in Film.

The founders are: Mary Benjamin, Rebecca Eaton, Raquel Ortiz, Robin Landerman, Christine Dall, Christine Herbes, Alice Hoffman, Janet Krause, Edith Luray, Midge MacKenzie, Diane Miller, Harriet Reisen, Katherine Deutch Tatlock, and Susan Steinberg-Woll.

“For all the big-name organizations that put an indelible stamp on the area film scene…local film offerings wouldn’t be quite as rich without the less acknowledged venues and groups that also play a crucial part, [including]
Women in Film & Video New England, for supporting aspiring and established female filmmakers alike.”
